We should do that

Couple bucket list: 60 ideas worth actually doing

Every couple has a ghost list of "we should do that sometime". This one is sorted by effort on purpose: start in the free column tonight, and let the big rocks wait their turn. Rule of thumb: one small item a month keeps the list alive.

Free and local (start tonight)

  1. Watch a sunrise together, coffee in hand, no phones except one photo.
  2. Recreate your first date, same place if you can.
  3. Cook a full meal from a cuisine neither of you knows.
  4. Walk your own city like tourists for an afternoon.
  5. Build the definitive shared playlist, ten songs each.
  6. Have a phones-in-a-drawer evening, board game mandatory.
  7. Write letters to open on your next anniversary.
  8. Stargaze somewhere genuinely dark.
  9. Do a photo walk where you only shoot each other. See our date ideas for more like this.
  10. Learn each other's coffee or tea order to barista precision.

Seasonal

  1. Pick fruit at a farm in summer.
  2. Swim in open water the first warm week of the year.
  3. Rake a pile of leaves specifically to jump in it.
  4. Build a snowman with a backstory.
  5. Host a two-person holiday dinner with a menu card.
  6. Watch a meteor shower on the actual peak night.
  7. Go to a Christmas market in a town that is not yours.
  8. Plant something in spring and keep it alive together.
  9. Do a first-snow walk, no destination.
  10. Spend one full autumn Sunday cooking soup and reading.

Travel

  1. Take a night train somewhere and sleep badly, happily.
  2. Book a trip where the other person picks everything, blind.
  3. Road trip with a rule: no highways.
  4. See a sea, an ocean, or a lake bigger than your country's idea of big.
  5. Visit the town one of you grew up in, get the full tour.
  6. Stay one night somewhere absurd: lighthouse, treehouse, monastery.
  7. Eat the famous dish in the place that invented it.
  8. Get lost in a city with no data plan, paper map only.
  9. Watch a sunset over a place you had only seen in photos.
  10. Come back to the same place twice, on purpose, years apart.

Growth (the brave column)

  1. Take a class together where you are both beginners.
  2. Run or hike something that requires actual training.
  3. Learn 100 words of each other's second language, or a new one together.
  4. Do a joint no-spend month and gamify it.
  5. Volunteer together for a cause one of you cares about.
  6. Read the same book and argue about it over dinner.
  7. Make a five-year map of what you both want, on paper.
  8. Learn to dance one dance properly, wedding-ready.
  9. Fix or build one real thing with your four hands.
  10. Go to therapy or a couples workshop once, before you need it.

Silly (mandatory)

  1. Invent a holiday that only the two of you celebrate.
  2. Win each other the ugliest possible arcade prize.
  3. Have a formal dinner at home in your fanciest clothes, frozen pizza.
  4. Learn a TikTok dance and show absolutely no one.
  5. Speak in accents for one entire grocery run.
  6. Draw portraits of each other, frame the worst one. Warm up with Draw Battle.
  7. Build a blanket fort and hold a film festival in it.
  8. Karaoke a duet, in public, badly.
  9. Order for each other at a restaurant, no vetoes.
  10. Take a photo in the same pose every year forever.

Long distance friendly

  1. Watch the same film in sync from two cities.
  2. Cook the same recipe on a video call, compare disasters.
  3. Send one real letter a month, stamps and all.
  4. Plan the next visit down to the first meal.
  5. Do a museum visit "together": one walks, one gets the tour by video.
  6. Keep a shared photo-a-day streak. This is literally what Spark does.
  7. Play a running game series across the distance: trivia, Battleship, whatever keeps score.
  8. Learn each city's map well enough to give directions in the other one.
  9. Sunset-call from your two time zones on the same day.
  10. Close the distance. The last item on every long distance list. More in our long distance guide.

How to keep the list from dying in your notes app

Bucket lists die of two causes: nobody owns them, and nobody sees them. The fix is a shared home both of you can add to the second an idea appears, plus a nudge that surfaces it when you are free. Spark ships exactly that: a shared bucket list for two, date planning to turn items into actual plans, and the daily photo ritual so every crossed-off item leaves a memory in your private gallery. Ideas become plans, plans become photos, photos become the story of your year.

From "we should" to a crossed-off list
